Edit.

Slowing I am adding items back into the den. Currently I am working on the bookshelves. I have the Coco Chanel quote in my head about taking off the last item you put on as I bring items back into the room. Before the bookshelves were full with DVDs, books, puzzles and stuff. This time around I am trying to simplify and be more thoughtful about how I use the shelves.

This is my first go around with a set up. The white boxes contain some of the DVD collection, the collection of books are copies that are nice to have nearby and I placed only white spine magazines on the bottom shelf. I am thinking I could try orange DVD boxes for more color, but it could be too much color. (The yellow mirror is propped up only to get off the floor until I find its home.)

Please give me your suggestions: How does this set up look? Too plain? Should I have more objects on the shelves? Does it need more color?

The yellow mirror is distracting but I understand it isn't staying there. I love the all white book shelves. You're on the right track!

Nice blog — I just happened upon it and am really enjoying it. Your den is looking lovely. I think you're wise to bring a true editing eye to it. I'm liking the simplicity and restrained palette...Have you thought about pulling out the brass door unit and replacing it with a simple free-standing screen? I took the plunge and tried it with my fireplace and it was an instant infusion of sophistication. I think you would really love the result.

Lovely little arrangements. If you move the yellow mirror than maybe add some color below. It's going to be so pretty!

It looks great. Although the yellow mirror says ouch to me. It takes away from the mantel display. My eyes go right to it. If you want the POP of color, try it on the mantel somehow. Just my suggestions, it still looks great anyway!

I like it. Some color might be nice though, but maybe wait and see if you need after you finish putting things on the walls?

I really like the look you are getting here. I have only one suggestion. Put the magazines in magazine boxes in a color that pops! The Container Store has the Stockholm collection that has two great colors for some pop....http://tinyurl.com/5hevpa
Red and Orange. With just a bit more color...you are THERE!
